Student Counseling Summer 2020
The Student Counseling Office will be open during the summer months Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. -4:30p.m. We will be closed Fridays. Students can make an appointment by calling the Student Counseling Office (320-589-6060) Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – noon or 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Please know that office staff will be reduced during the summer months. If the office is closed or you receive a voicemail, you can leave a message and your message will be returned as soon as someone is able. If the counselor you have been working with is not working in the summer months, please work with them for a referral to a new counselor or resources in your area should you need support over the summer.
Someplace Safe does not have office hours over the summer. If you are in need of advocacy services please call 320-589-3208 or 1-800-974-3359.
If you (or someone you know) is having a mental health crisis and/or is in immediate danger, please call 911. Dangerous crisis situations include suicidal behaviors or threats, homicidal behavior or threats, irrational dangerous behavior, or excessive consumption of alcohol or drugs. If you are not sure whether the situation represents immediate danger, err on the side of caution and place the call.
If the mental health crisis you are experiencing is not dangerous, but you wish to access health care immediately, please contact one of the following, 24 hours a day:

What Happens in a First Session?
When you make an appointment at Student Counseling they will ask you to fill out paperwork before seeing a counselor. This paperwork needs to be filled out each academic year. We ask that you allow yourself 15 minutes before your initial/first session to fill out the paperwork, come into the office when you have 15 minutes during open office hours (8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., 1:00-4:30 p.m.), or print and fill out the paperwork in advance. Appointments will be made with the first available intake counselor. In the initial/first session, the intake counselor will ask you a variety of questions about you, your life and what is bothering you. The discussion will help the intake counselor understand you and your concerns and make an initial assessment of your situation. The need for future sessions will be discussed in the initial/first session.
